About Ben
Benjamin Laham is a pianist, composer, and conductor whose artistry bridges classical tradition, jazz fluency, and theatrical expression.
Born and raised in Danbury, Connecticut, he began studying jazz and classical piano at age five with Jon Blanck and later Maxim Vladimiroff. Throughout his formative years, he became proficient in a myriad of musical styles and performed actively throughout his community in libraries, churches, and nursing homes. His early performances included solo recitals, chamber music, jazz combos, symphonic bands, and orchestras. Notably, he completed ABRSM exams at Levels 9–10, appeared at the Young Musicians Festival, and performed with the Danbury Symphony Orchestra.

Laham earned his Bachelor of Music in Composition from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where he studied composition with Dr. Eun Young Lee, Dr. Timothy McCormack, and Dr. Stephen Halloran; classical piano with Dr. Jonathan Bass; conducting with Larry Isaacson; and music direction with David Pepin. He also performed with Maestro Bruce Hangen’s conductor’s workshop orchestra and collaborated across numerous ensembles within the Conservatory’s music division.
During his time at the Conservatory, Laham became increasingly active across all facets of his musicianship. In addition to his composition degree, he made major strides as both a pianist and music director. Under the mentorship of Broadway’s David Pepin and Kevin Stites, he developed his skills in theater, leading to his engagement as a substitute for Pepin, performing Keyboard 1 in the orchestra of Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre. Laham has contributed to the creative teams of eleven productions at the Conservatory, serving in roles including audition pianist, rehearsal pianist, Keyboard 1 and 2, assistant music director, and cover conductor.

As a piano student of Jonathan Bass, Laham’s artistry deepened through the integration of classical performance, sight-reading, and improvisation. His growth led to numerous professional opportunities, including auditions for Disney Entertainment, New York casting agencies, and regional theaters. He also performed as a chamber pianist, founded the BoCo Jazz Trio, and appeared in a range of collaborative settings.

Laham’s compositions span solo, chamber, vocal, and orchestral music, reflecting his command of a versatile harmonic language and stylistic palette. Current projects include a clarinet concerto, a string quartet, and a book of piano preludes. His work as an arranger has been featured by AMT Theater in New York City, the Boston Conservatory Theater, and a video game orchestra in Bulgaria.

In addition to piano, Laham performs on several secondary instruments. At Boston Conservatory, he has appeared on banjo with the symphony orchestra, drum set with the BoCo Jazz Trio, oud in solo recital, timpani in composition recitals, and as a choral singer in Conservatory ensembles.
